Snow Leopard It Is

A quick update: In my last post, I asked whether anyone would be upset if the new release required Lion (Max OS X 10.7) or later. I received several responses from users on Snow Leopard (10.6) who were hoping to be able to use the new Solitaire Till Dawn. I hear you, and I am keeping as much backward compatibility as I can reasonably manage. The new release will be compatible with Snow Leopard (10.6.8) or later; and of course "later" includes Lion, Mountain Lion, and the soon-to-be-released Mavericks.

  1. I realize I'm retired with all the excitement that goes along with that; but I must say this is the most excited I've been in years! (since upgrading to Lion). I'm so sick of ugly solitaire games...

  2. Once you have it ready to your standards, what has to be done, how long does it take to get it available in the Apple Store? Any chance I will be able to play it on my new MacBook Pro before year end?

  3. Well, people on Snow Leopard can play the original.

But if some kind, gentle, caring person who is generally very awesome, hypothetically of course, upgraded his grandmother's Mac to Mountain Lion that means she can't play anything until you release the updated version. So for the love of pete please release a beta or something before this, um, anonymous hypothetical person gets yelled and screamed at again.

  4. To repeat my question from last month, will the new version absorb all the statistics from the old version? That data of my game history sits in that old application folder which is still on my hard drive waiting for revival. The alias in my dock with the circle-slash through it looks forlorn.

  5. ooo - beta! I love that idea... beta for those of us who had to upgrade for our work, and have been crying ever since...

  6. and also? my word verification was 'easHurri 21' which could be interpreted as an imperative (though personally I enter it as a plea) to please hurry and send out on the 21st? :)

  7. Hi, guys! A couple of quick responses:

Yes, the new version will attempt to read in your scores and settings from the older version.

How long will it take to make it available from the Apple Store once it's actually ready? I don't know! I've never done this before. I'm told by others that it's usually a few weeks, and it depends on whether Apple finds any issues that they will want me to fix.

    Not sure about betas yet.

And the perennial question of "please, when will it be done?" All I can say is that I feel like we're getting close. I have one or two features left to implement, some polish to apply, some debugging to do, and some Help pages left to write. Also I must commission some artwork, though I think I won't need much for this first release. A few months still, I'm afraid.

  8. I'm 76 years old. I'd like to see this done for Mavericks before they slap me in the face with a shovel.
